What’s up everybody!  I wanted to take a quick break from the content I’ve posted in the past week on how to train starting speed and acceleration.  Instead, today I want to show you footage on how NOT to start effectively and also how NOT to finish.

bad running Speed Training Workouts . . . for these kind of results?

Training reaction time is a big part of speed training if you’re wanting to see your efforts translate to better performance.  Take the game of baseball, for example.  You’re dealing with fractions of a second on almost every play made at a base, and the difference between getting to a ball in the gap and not is often minimal.  So, neglecting to train reaction time with your athletes is a big oversight.  Here’s an example of a guy who didn’t get the reaction training memo . . .

. . . don’t think he’s gonna take home the gold on that lap.

On the other hand, as important as the start is, you gotta finish.  If you remember during the Olympics Usain Bolt famously started celebrating with 10 meters to go in the race, but it didn’t cost him.  This guy wasn’t as fortunate.  The video’s a little grainy, but hang in there for the full 26 seconds, and you’ll see what I mean . . .

Back to business in my next post as I’ll pick up where I left off with speed training workouts designed to improve starting speed and acceleration, but in the meantime I hope you enjoyed the lighter side of the sports world.
